I would like to make some beer.

Being able to brew your own beer seems like a handy skill to have. I haven’t run the figures, but I have a suspicion that it’d be cheaper than walking across the street to the Loudoun Street Mini Mart for beer. Well, once the initial equipment investment has been made. Of course, if I were to get into this, I can’t go in with anything less than top-of-the-line:
Blichmann Engineering makes a line of fermentors and brewing pots that looky mighty swanky.
This is their BoilerMaker brew pot, with built-in level gauge and themometer.
This is the FERMENATOR, the Terminator of fermanation tanks. No lame plastic bucket for me.
I’d probably go for the littlest one pictured, the 7 gallon model, which makes 5 gallon batches.
I guess I’ll have to do some reading, because I’m not sure what other gear I’d need. So far it’s looking like almost $1k initial investment (including a cheap fridge for the Fermenator to sleep in). That’s not including ingredients. Maybe I should stick to a $30 plastic bucket system…
