EotE:Critical Hits
From SoylentWiki
If a character sustains damage sufficient to kill the character (whether from a confirmed critical hit or otherwise), the character may spend 1 Force Point to modify the effect of the killing blow as follows:
- The character becomes disabled (0 Wound Points, per the rules in the RCR for disabled characters)
- The player must describe a dramatic physical loss to the character, whether it's the loss of the use of an arm, leg, hand, sight, hearing, or the like, depending on the means used to harm the character. A limb or sense may be broken or damaged rather than lost, but the end result is the same--the limb or sense cannot be used.
A character so wounded can spend blue chips as normal to recover lost VP and WP, but the penalties for the lost limb or sense remain effective until they can be replaced or healed.
Any action that demands the use of a limb is impossible (a broken or missing hand or arm can't hold or use anything); any actions hindered but not negated by the loss of the limb suffer a -4 penalty. Movement is reduced to 1/2 for a bipedal character with a severed or broken leg or foot. Same penalties for swimming or climbing. For other conditions inflicted as a result of taking this kind of wound, such as blindness or deafness, see page 288 of the RCR.
Setting a broken limb is DC 20, DC 30 if you're setting your own. Healing a broken limb is also possible. For each full day of rest, the -4 penalty to actions is reduced by 1, regardless of the quantity or quality of healing bestowed on the character. Note that a character could regain full VP and WP yet still have the broken limb penalty.
Replacing a limb or the loss of sight or hearing requires the patient to go to a properly-equipped medical facility to secure a cybernetic replacement or technological solution to the malady.
