20 BSW4

  • Padawan Venn Tharak faces the Jedi Trials for a second time and once again fails. He is one of the older Padawans in the Order, and his self-esteem begins to suffer. The Jedi Council is unable to determine why Venn cannot take the next step, but they sense that he is plagued by self-doubt. His master, Tahlis Noss, devises a way to boost the confidence of her underachieving Padawan. Venn is assigned to go alone to the Outer Rim and fulfill a mission for the Temple that will test his skills as a Guardian. As a parting gift, Master Tahlis gives Venn a lightsaber to aid him in his task.

19 BSW4

  • Venn arrives in the Kurinori system to begin his mission, secretly landing his Jedi starfighter deep in the planet's expansive jungle. He has been charged with investigating a plot by a planetary crime lord to amass a large quantity of force crystals. In fact, the crime lord is under the sway of a Dark Jedi attempting to train and arm a cult which he will lead. Venn is badly outmatched and following a fierce duel with the Dark Jedi, is left for dead in the jungle. Venn is taken in by a former Jedi living as a hermit on the planet. The hermit nurses him back to health over a period of several years. In the meantime, the planet falls further under the influence of the Dark Jedi and the crime syndicate that serves him. Venn is forced to live as a fugitive and has no means to return to his ship and contact the Temple on Coruscant.
  • Jedi padawan Tieg Coymer and his master Ki-Adi-Mundi travel to the icy planet Mygeeto to attempt to bring a faction of Aqualish over to the side of the Republic. When the Separatists attack the planet, Master Ki-Adi-Mundi sends Tieg to rally additional troops and loyalists on the planet while he presses the attack across a series of bridges.
  • In the wake of the "Jedi Uprising," Chancellor Palpatine issues Order 66 to the Republic Clone Army. Hundreds of Jedi are killed within moments of the order being issued. The official story later put out for public knowledge is that the Jedi had tried to assassinate Palpatine to overthrow the Republic and institute a Force-worshipping theocracy in its place. They are also said to have instigated the Clone Wars from the start, a scenario made plausible by the fact that both the Separatist leader Count Dooku and the engineer of the Clone army Sifo-Dyas were Jedi.
  • While Tieg approaches the rally point for his troops on Mygeeto, he senses his master fall through the Force, a victim of clone trooper betrayal. Tieg manages to force himself aboard a shuttle and escape into hyperspace.
  • Republic HoloNet News puts out a list of Jedi fugitives still at large. Included on the short version of the list are Kai Justiss, Halagad Ventor, Qu Rahn, Ydra Kiwallen, Maw the Boltrunian, and Ranik Solusar. As for many other Jedi who have survived, Palpatine does not have them all hunted down just yet, allowing some to go into hiding, which he sees not as them escaping him, but as humbling themselves before the Sith’s power after a millennium of arrogance.
  • Devastated at the destruction of the Jedi and at the rising of Emperor Palpatine, Tieg believes himself to be one of the few remaining Jedi. Unable to find another of his order after a several-month search, Tieg wisely chooses to assume a non-Jedi identity and reluctantly destroys his Jedi garb and removes his Padawan braid. He keeps his lightsaber, a gift from Master Ki-Adi-Mundi. Tieg soon despairs and loses himself in the bottles and back alleys of whatever planet he found himself on. His Jedi self-control never lets him completely forget who he is, much to his dismay.

18 BSW4

  • Republic HoloNet News reports that COMPOR (the Commission for the Preservation of the Republic) has been replaced by a new organization, COMPNOR (the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order).
  • Republic HoloNet News reports on the new regional governors, Moffs, who will now be a direct link between various sectors and the Emperor himself. Among the first Moffs announced to the public are Wilhuff Tarkin, Denn Wessex, and Marcellin Wessel.
  • With the rise of the Empire, the all remaining independant planetary security forces are all absorbed into one Imperial Navy. Similarly, peacekeeping organizations like the Sector Rangers are usurped by the Imperial machine. Tobias Grimm accepts a comission in the Imperial Navy as a Lieutenant.
  • Palpatine orders a large section of the HoloNet shut down, and puts the rest under Imperial control as "Imperial HoloVision" in order to censor the public's news. With the closing of most of the HoloNet, private courier services immediately begin filling the communications gap.
  • The destruction on Mustafar following the duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi is ruled an “industrial accident.” As a result of the destruction of several parts of the facility there, prices for dolovite rise to 760 credits per barrel. Among that entrepreneurs to make a killing off the dolovite markets is Ravé Dejar.
  • A sale of used starships takes place on Raed-7. The previous owners of the ships were mostly individuals killed during the Clone Wars, whose property was confiscated or otherwise salvaged. Ravé Dejar takes the opportunity to purchase a small fleet of vessels and establishes his own courier/discrete shipping service.
  • In the wake of the Jedi Purge, Emperor Palpatine forms the Imperial Inquisitorius to help seek out and destroy the last vestiges of the Jedi Order. Lord Torbin is appointed as the first Grand Inquisitor. At his urging, the Empire outfits some troops who are not Force-attuned with a special type of Force Detector device which utilizes thaissen crystals from Mimban to detect Force-attunement in individuals. This allows more than just Force-sensitive Inquisitors to seek out and destroy the last vestiges of the Jedi.
  • The Imperial Inquisitors order the razing of numerous worlds that are known for their lightsaber crystals, just to be sure that any surviving Jedi will be unable to get their hands on ready sources of new lightsabers. Others become the sites of garrisons for the newly-established Imperial Navy, to intercept any Jedi who might return for crystals.
  • For harboring a Jedi, Darth Vader destroys a colony on Talasea.
  • Frightened by criminal interest in his nascent shipping empire, Ravé Dejar hires himself some muscle to act as personal bodygaurds and shipboard security. Having recently resigned his Imperial comission and hurting for a regular paycheck, Tobias Grimm signs up.

17 BSW4

  • Nion, one of Ravé Dejar's most senior captains, realizes that she'll never make enough money to get out from under Ravé: She'll either die of old age or her ship will fall apart around her before she saves enough to start out on her own. Taking matters into her own hands, she gathers her savings and buys into one of Ravé's regular sabacc games. She's lucky enough to walk away with her ship at the end of the night.
  • Imperial HoloVision urges citizens to register their names, political persuasion, and weapons with Imperial authorities for the greater good. Citizens are urged to help the new Empire by being clone donors, joining the military, joining COMPNOR, becoming “eyes” for the Empire, and, if an alien, registering for what will eventually amount to slave labor.
  • The Imperial Inquisitors expand the scope of the Jedi Purge, directing their attentions to non-Jedi Force traditions. Iktotch and its precognitive natives is one of the first worlds struck by these new purges. The Iktotchi attempt to pull back, but their system is blockaded. The Quermians narrowly avoid the same fate, pulling completely out of the Quermia system. Even untrained force-sensitives are unspared: Darth Vader conducts raids targetting the children of Corellia, giving rise to folktales of a boogeyman figure, “Lord Nyax.”
  • Queen Apailana of Naboo insists that any Jedi are still friends of Naboo. In doing so, she has thumbed her nose at the Empire, frustrating, among others, Inquisitor Malorum. Eventually, this cannot be tolerated. The Empire cracks down on Naboo for harboring fugitive Jedi by sending the 501st Clone Legion to assassinate Apailana. They do so, and ensure that the next monarch is pro-Empire.
  • Palpatine stirs anti-alien bias by accusing non-human species of harboring and hiding the remaining fugitive Separatist leaders. Palpatine’s xenophobia (or at least racism to non-human species) sparks a popular sentiment of High Human Culture, a “human supremacy” doctrine that becomes a backbone of the New Order. Palpatine orders the creation of theAlien Protection Zone on Coruscant in response to vocal opposition to the Empire's anti-alien sentiments. Unhappy with the institutionalization of racism and segregation in the Empire, species such as theNazzar return to their home systems and ignore the galaxy at large. Other species like the the pacifisticPriapulin begin to turn to non-violent resistance when they encounter such policies.
  • The Imperial Navy's deploys its first superweapon, the dreadnaught Eye of Palpatine. Its inaugural mission is to eliminate the Jedi sanctuary of Plawal on the planet of Belsavis. The battlemoon suffers unexpected system failures before completing its primary objective, and its complement of troops are scattered across the Outer Rim. The Jedi sanctuary is later found to have been hastily abandoned, and the Eye of Palpatine lies dormant and inert to this day.
  • Ke'dra Jazra, after seeing the purpose to which the Empire plans to put her skills, fakes her death and escapes to the Outer Rim. She earns a meager living refurbishing engines for Rave's courier fleet, though her obvious expertise draws unwanted attention from the businessman. When Nion offers her passage out of the system in return for her expertise, Jaz jumps at the opportunity. When the ship reaches its destination, Jaz doesn't leave and Nion counts her blessings.

16 BSW4

  • In a moment of clarity, Tieg realizes that he's wasting his life and decides to move on. The one problem is that he has no means to get off the planet he's on. Using his diplomatic skills, buttressed by judicious use of the Force, Tieg secures himself a small stack of credits and pulls himself together.
  • After three years, Venn has fully healed from his wounds and has resumed his training under the tutelage of the hermit. He feels confident enough to confront the Dark Jedi, but fate intervenes. A battalion of Clone Troopers arrives on the planet and attacks the Dark Jedi, his cultists and the entire crime syndicate. Almost all are killed. A small garrison is left behind on the planet after the majority of the troopers depart. Amid the chaos Venn emerges from hiding, assuming the guise of a farmer. It is then that he learns of Order 66 and the Jedi purge.
  • Under the rule of the Old Republic, slavery was abhorred and outlawed galaxy–wide, although it did exist and was ignored in the fringe of the outer rim territories. With the rise of the Empire, and the Emperor's anti-alien stance, the laws upholding the rights of sentient beings slacken. With the passing of Imperial Decree A-SL-4557.607.232, which legalizes procurement of slaves under certain conditions, slaving guilds rise to prominence. Species such as the Elom, the Trunsks, and the Wookies are declared slave species and their planets are placed under martial law.
  • The Empire comes to Verkuyl, taking it over from BactaCo.
  • The Imperial Procurator of Justice declares the inhabitants of New Plympto expendable, allowing the Empire to take the planet and kill any resistance.
  • As the Empire gains power, garrisons are placed on Zabrak-inhabited worlds, including Darth Maul’s homeworld of Iridonia. This unifies the Zabraks of each world against the Empire.
  • Emperor Palpatine begins to cut off exploration into new territories to cement his grip on the citizens of the Empire.
  • Palpatine orders that the area of space that was once the Sith Empire closed and worlds such as Thule erased from galactic records. These areas of space become the private domain of Palpatine's Dark Side Adepts, who seek to uncover information about the First Order of the Dark Lords of the Sith in order to help in Palpatine’s rule as the most powerful current member of the Second Order of the Dark Lords of the Sith.
  • Taj Junak, a Jedi Knight on Mrlsst, is killed by Imperial forces after peacefully surrendering himself in return for the safety of the Mrllst Academy.
  • Venn consults with his hermit mentor, who assures him that he has survived the terrible events for a reason. Venn believes it is his destiny to find survivors of the purge and fight the Sith lords who have assumed control on the galaxy. Together, the two travel to the location of Venn's starfighter and spend a month modifying the vessel to conceal its true nature. Venn says a heartfelt goodbye to his friend and mentor and leaves the planet Kurinori behind.
  • Tieg secures a berth aboard Nion's ship as member of the retinue of a pair of hard-bargaining Duros. With a little encouragement from his demeanor and the Force, he manages to convince the Duros to come up in price, enabling Nion to pocket a tidy sum in advance. Once the Duros are safely delivered to their destination, Tieg offers his services to Nion, who sees profitable potential in someone whose negotiation skills complement her own. His efforts over the next several months earn him a spot on the crew full-time.

15 BSW4

  • Using the lure of keeping the Mining Guild “independent,” Palpatine seduces the Guild to align with the Empire.
  • The NewsNet known as Smuggler’s Scuttlebutt is created.
  • The Neimoidians, an offshoot of the Duros species millennia old, still reeling and scattered after the dissolution of the Neimoidian Trade Federation, finally reemerges into galactic society, having integrated themselves back into their own subsection of Duros society after millennia.
  • The planet Ilum, long used by Jedi as a location to find crystals for lightsaber construction (and which has always been left off of starcharts for this very reason), is virtually forgotten with the destruction of the Jedi and Palpatine’s information purges.
  • The Droid Statutes, laws to cover crimes perpetrated by droids, are enacted. Life Preservation Programming is given to the subroutines which every droid was required to have in their operational computer memory. Known as LPP, this programming was mandatory under the laws of the New Order, and prevented a droid from "experiencing the compulsion to do harm to an organic being.” This programming could be overridden, but this act was considered a Class Two or higher crime by the Imperial Penal References.
  • The Empire executes the government of the Trans-Nebular sector, establishing a puppet state under the rule of Moff Nebin Cray. Reviewing the records of his predecessor, Cray rediscovers the planet Goroth, forgotten for centuries. More importantly, he learns of the high concentration of the hyperbarides on the planet. Cray’s call for annexation go unanswered – the Empire is spending too much money on building up the military to bother with the planet at the moment. Cray strikes a deal with various megacorporations to come in and mine the planet, under his supervision. Goroth becomes little more than a slave world.
  • For a year, Venn has searched for other Jedi who might have survived in the Outer Rim. He assumes the identify of a mercenary fighter pilot and takes odd jobs escorting shady characters and illicit cargo shipments, avoiding combat whenever possible and opting to disable enemy ships rather than destroy them. Despite his determined efforts, he fails to find any Jedi.

14 BSW4

  • While following up on rumored Jedi sightings in a cantina, Venn suddenly senses the presence of a force user very close by. He identifies the individual he believes to be the source and introduces himself to the young man, whose name is Tieg. and his business partner, an independent ship Captain named Nion. The two have just taken on a dangerous but potentially lucrative assignment and Venn offers to help for a fraction of his normal cut. Through word of mouth, Nion knows Venn by his reputation as a dependable escort pilot. Curious to see what game the Zabrak is playing at in taking such a low cut, she accepts his offer and the two ships depart the planet.
  • Venn reveals his true identity to the crew and learns that his suspicions about Tieg were correct. Though the two have some differences in perspective and interpretation on matters relating to the Force, Venn is thrilled to finally have had some success in his search. In fact, Venn believes it was the will of the Force that brought him to Captain Nion and her ship, and he is convinced they will continue to play an important part in his quest to find more lost Jedi.
