Introduction
PWNSHG is an acronym for Pete's Wednesday Night Super-Hero Game. The brainchild of Peter Dean, PWNSHG was the most recent incarnation of his long-running super-heroic RPG campaign setting. PWNSHG began in May of 1998, running on a weekly basis until ???
Campaign Concept
Players portray super-powered recruits into a government agency resposible for investigation and response to super-powered threats.
Formula
PWNSHG mixes standard super-heroic action with X-Files style investigation.
Themes
The central theme of the campaign was unraveling the tangled web of the U.S. government's past reactions to, and dealings with, superhumans. Secondary themes included trust, paranoia, and dealing with being the inheritors of the legacy of a previous government super-team. Other possible themes for games using this concept include the relationship between the government superteam and other super-heroes, and the relationship between super-humans and the public.

Metahumanity
Metahumans, or mutants are human beings who are born with genetic modifications that allow for abilities not possessed by regular humans. Although mutant powers vary greatly, the most common mutant powers include flight, the ability to project energy, an accelerated healing factor, and enhanced strength, agility or senses at variable limits. Most metahuman powers manifest during puberty and, for some metahumans, several years of self-discipline are needed before they can control their powers, while others never gain full control of them. Children born from metahumans are more likely to be metahumans themselves than children born of human or mixed human/metahuman parents, and as an unstated rule, metahuman relatives will generally have similar powers. There are also humans who are not metahumans themselves but are genetically predisposed towards having metahuman descendents.
The prefix meta-, in this context, simply means "beyond"—as in metastable, which is beyond regular stability and ready to collapse at the slightest disruption, or metamorphosis, which is the state of going beyond a single shape.
